The PRP method, or plasma therapy, uses injections of a concentration of the patient’s own platelets to accelerate tissue healing. In this way, the patient’s own natural regenerative system is used for recovery after surgeries and various dental treatments.

Why is the PRP method of advantage?

This method helps reduce infection rates, swelling, and ensures the long-term success of surgical and other dental procedures. The best thing about it: platelet-rich blood plasma is obtained from a small sample of the patient’s own blood and the body’s own regenerative power is used for fast and safe bone and soft tissue growth.

Platelet Rich Blood Plasma (PRP method) is an exciting and relatively new type of treatment that has gained immense popularity in oral surgery. Platelet-rich blood plasma (PRP method) is a very easy to use and readily available biomaterial that facilitates tissue regeneration and is a natural method to significantly improve and accelerate healing after various dental treatments.

PRP therapy can reduce the rate of infection up to 10 times (especially after wisdom tooth extraction and before or during the placement of dental implants), reduce swelling and ensure the long-term success of the surgical procedure. In many clinical indications, PRP can be used alone to avoid the high costs associated with bone regeneration treatment and connective tissue regeneration.

Effects of the PRP-method

How PRP works is simple. The PRP method uses injections of the patient’s own concentrated platelets to speed up the healing process. Basically, the method uses the body’s own regenerative powers to accelerate the healing process.

To produce PRP, a small amount of blood is drawn, which is then run through a centrifuge to concentrate platelets. These concentrated platelets are then injected back into your tissues.

Platelets serve a number of uses in the healing process, including the release of growth factors that promote tissue regeneration and activate the body’s healing abilities. The more growth factors available to the body during healing, the faster wounds can heal.

Proper healing after dental procedures is extremely important but sometimes overlooked. Since PRP can contribute significantly to better and faster healing after many dental procedures, it is increasingly used in dental practices. One of its most important uses is in the area of new bone formation, making it an important adjunct to any procedure involving the jawbone. Dental procedures that may benefit from PRP therapy include:

  • Regeneration (replacement) of bones for the installation of dental implants
  • Jaw bone repair (e.g. after injury or disease-related bone damage)
  • Tooth extraction

FAQ on PRP method

The PRP method can help heal wounds from trauma and joint injuries. The technique can solve the problem of baldness, stimulate the growth of transplanted hair and is also used in aesthetic facial treatments.

As you might have guessed from the name, PRP is a mixture of platelets and plasma that contains a high concentration of platelets. Platelets are the part of the blood that controls clotting.

In general, the usual recovery time for a PRP treatment is around 4 to 6 weeks. PRP injections used for muscle or skeletal problems, particularly joint injuries, typically require a recovery of 6 weeks or more. For cosmetic PRP treatments, most patients should plan up to 4 weeks.

Platelet-rich plasma lasts six to nine months and continues to help the soft tissue injury heal during that time.

The PRP method uses injections of the patient’s own concentrated platelets to speed up the healing process. Basically, it uses the body’s own regenerative powers to accelerate the healing process.

The use of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is a new approach to tissue regeneration and is emerging as a valuable tool to promote healing in many dental and maxillofacial surgical procedures, particularly in elderly patients.

PRP therapy not only poses less risk, it also offers better recovery compared to other treatments, with less scarring, swelling, and bruising. Using the body’s own repair mechanisms, PRP treats the source of injury and pain by healing the damaged bone tissue, tendons, ligaments, or muscles.

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is a technological procedure in which the patient’s own blood plasma is formulated and used. PRP is therefore 100% biocompatible and safe for use in dental implant surgery.

Yes. During the surgical procedure, a small amount of the patient’s own blood is taken. Then this blood is put into a PRP centrifuge. In less than 15 minutes, platelet-rich blood plasma (PRP) is formed and is ready for use.

Not always. In some cases, PRP is not required. However, in most cases, the use of PRP in a regenerative treatment will increase the final amount of bone preserved. In addition, the wound heals faster and more efficiently.

No. Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) must be mixed with the patient’s own bone, a bone substitute such as lyophilized bone, or synthetic bone.

There are very few contraindications. However, patients with blood clotting disorders or haematological diseases should not choose this procedure in the dental office.
