Hyaluronic acid fillers are dermal fillers based on hyaluronic acid. They are injected into the skin at varying depths to fill in wrinkles, provide desired volume, and sculpt the contours of the face while restoring a smoother complexion.

Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance found in human skin that helps keep it elastic and hydrated.

Are hyaluronic acid fillers the best option for you?

jesu li hijaluronski fileri optimalna opcija

You can start with dermal filler treatments (also called wrinkle fillers) as soon as the first more pronounced wrinkles appear. The quality and quantity of the skin’s own hyaluronic acid decreases with age. Products based on hyaluronic acid restore firmness and fullness to the skin, renewing it from within.

In the Smile Clinic we use hyaluronic acid and products from well-known manufacturers, with which we can remove facial wrinkles in the area from the nose line to the corners of the mouth (nasolabial folds), around the lips, in the area between the eyebrows, on the forehead or around the eyes.

We are also able to add fullness and definition to your lips and cheeks after just one treatment. Hyaluronic acid fillers should not be confused with Botox. Botox “freezes” muscles to reduce wrinkles, while hyaluronic acid fillers are injectable dermal fillers that help smoothing skin and wrinkles. As the name suggests, facial fillers are injected under the skin with a needle.

Unlike other injectable used in aesthetic treatments, hyaluronic acid fillers are basically sugars that occur naturally in the skin. They are a key component in the body’s ability to retain water to ensure smooth and hydrated skin. When hyaluronic acid fillers are injected into the skin, they attract more water. In fact, they can hold up to 1,000 times their weight in water – ultimately resulting in naturally tight and firm skin.

Due to this, these dermal fillers are usually used all over the face. They can be applied to the temples and cheeks to reduce wrinkles between the nose and lips or between the lips and chin. Hyaluronic acid, which you may recognize as a common component of skin care products, is one of the most popular types of fillers. As it helps the skin to retain moisture, hyaluronic acid can make your face smoother and more hydrated.

Procedure of the treatment

1

CONSULTATIONS

The first step is a free consultation where we examine your face and analyse your skin. We discuss your wishes and expectations, agree on the details of the treatment and take photos so that we can check the success of the treatment. Taking into account all relevant aspects, our experts will select and prepare suitable hyaluronic fillers.

2

APPLICATION OF HYALURON FILLERS

Before the treatment it is necessary to thoroughly clean the face and remove all traces of makeup. Then we apply an anaesthetic cream to the face to soften the stings of the injections. After 15 minutes we remove the anaesthetic, clean the face again and start the treatment by applying dermal fillers.

The filler is injected into the desired area using small, thin needles. The treatment lasts from 30 to 60 minutes and the total time depends on the areas treated and the amount of filler applied. During the treatment you will receive detailed information about the amount of fillers applied.

RESULTS

You can go about your daily tasks immediately after the treatment. Redness can sometimes appear, but this disappears after a few hours. Swelling usually subsides after a few days. The results are already visible within a few days, but the real effect of the treatment becomes apparent after 2 weeks. The effect of hyaluronic fillers can last up to 15 months.

What you need to know before the treatment?

Patients often come to us expressing the wish “just to look a little better” without wanting to undergo cosmetic surgery. In such cases, dermal fillers are used to increase volume and smooth wrinkles, with which our patients are very satisfied.

Such wrinkle fillers for lips and face are particularly popular because patients recognize differences in their appearance even before they leave our clinic. By the way: With other non-surgical aesthetic treatments, such as Botox, the desired changes are only noticeable after a few days. One more thing to note: wrinkle fillers are not suitable for body contouring procedures. In other words, they should not be used to enlarge the breasts or buttocks.

Safety should be your number one priority no matter what medical procedure you are considering. Therefore, choose a reliable healthcare facility whose doctors have completed all the necessary training in the safe use of dermal fillers. Without a clear understanding of facial anatomy, treatment by an untrained person can result in disruption of blood supply, damage to nerves, and potentially irreparable damage.

As a patient, you should always ask for a consultation first and then talk about what your goal is and how you could achieve that goal. You may think you only want dermal fillers, but a specialist may recommend a different treatment or combination of treatments based on your skin type and specific goals.

Don’t be afraid to ask your doctor about his or her experience and training at the first consultation. Finally, you should discuss realistic results and your expectations with your doctor—it’s about your face.

Even non-surgical procedures bear some risks. The most common side effects include bruising, redness, pain, or swelling, all of which should disappear within two weeks. Rarely, patients may develop bumps under the skin that require injections, medication, or even surgical removal.

Although very rare, wrinkle fillers can be accidentally injected into a blood vessel and cause blurred vision or permanent blindness. You should call your doctor or an ambulance if your skin is turning blue and it is very painful – these are two possible signs that the filler entered your bloodstream. All of these possible side effects, no matter how rare, are another reason why you should consult a reputable healthcare facility and a doctor who is experienced and competent in performing this aesthetic procedure.

There is no research showing that wrinkle fillers are safe for pregnant or breastfeeding women. Therefore, if you are expecting a baby or have recently had a baby, you should delay treatment. Avoid hyaluronic fillers immediately before a professional teeth cleaning or other dental treatment.

These procedures cause some pressure and stretching of the facial muscles, which can potentially dislodge the injected fillers. During your consultation, you can ask your doctor when it is safe to have dental procedures again.

If you are not happy with the way you look after the treatment, don’t panic – adjustment is possible in most cases. The doctor may inject additional filler to balance the look or remove it entirely. The good thing about hyaluronic fillers is that an enzyme can be injected into the treated area to dissolve the hyaluronic acid, which then just disappears.

Yet, when facial fillers are expertly injected, the result should be a beautiful and natural look. The changes we can do are so minimal that no one would notice them at first glance.

Since hyaluronic fillers are not permanently effective, you will have to repeat the treatment if you like the results. After about six months, your body will begin to break down the hyaluronic acid filler naturally. However, the duration of the effect varies from person to person, depending on their metabolism and lifestyle. For some it can last a year, for others much longer.

An increasing number of patients treated with both fillers appear to prefer the aesthetic results of Teosyal fillers over Juvederm fillers. Another attractive aspect of Teosyal is its durability. Many patients have a rejuvenated appearance that lasts up to 22 months. This is significantly longer than with Juvederm, whose effect lasts up to 18 months.

Many patients worry that they will look worse after the hyaluronic acid has been broken down than before the treatment. Although fillers can increase the volume of your skin, it is elastic enough to return to its original shape and still looks healthy and fresh.

Compared to Botox, dermal fillers for lips and face are just as effective. More importantly, the results last longer. However, the duration of action of wrinkle fillers still depends mainly on the type of filler. Some can last as long as Botox, while other types of fillers can last longer than a year.

Although wrinkle fillers are extremely safe, you should avoid the following activities after a treatment:

  • Do not go for a facial treatment, massage or microdermabrasion
  • Do not wear glasses that put too much pressure on the treated area
  • Don’t sunbathe
  • Avoid alcohol for at least 24 hours
  • Avoid strenuous exercise for the next 24 hours

Filler migration is the movement of a dermal filler from the injection site to another area of the face. Although it can happen, this side effect is extremely rare and can be avoided by hiring a qualified professional.
