Subperiosteal implants are a tooth replacement option fully adapted to people who do not have enough bone volume for standard dental implants or the All-on-4 method. They consist of a biocompatible titanium construction that attaches to the bone below the gum line.

What is the NO BONE IMPLANT Concept?

The NO BONE IMPLANT concept represents a revolutionary shift in modern dentistry, enabling new, fixed teeth in less than 12 hours for patients with a complete lack of bone in the jaw.

Subperiosteal implants use a completely biocompatible construction, a kind of titanium mesh, which is attached to the bone in a completely different way than classic implants.

The construction is made individually for each patient using CAD-CAM technology, in a special software based on the patient’s three-dimensional CT scan.

Each titanium mesh for this revolutionary concept is custom-made for the patient, allowing for a faster and more precise fit. The customized implant is firmly fixed to the patient’s bone, thus creating a stable structure on which a dental bridge with 12 teeth is placed.

Subperiosteal implants have been used in dentistry for many years and are one of the oldest methods of tooth replacement. Thanks to today’s CAD-CAM technology in dentistry, they have undergone an evolution and have become a more precise, accessible and practical solution for anyone who wants fixed teeth and is not a candidate for standard dental implants.

The procedure for placing subperiosteal implants
from diagnosis to postoperative care

1

First examination and diagnosis

Based on the first clinical examination and diagnostics, which includes taking an impression of the situation, digital scanning and CBCT 3D images, we will establish the condition of the bone. We will see if you are a candidate for the Smile Evolution Concept and, based on that, suggest the best implant-prosthetic rehabilitation solution for your case. The surgery and the procedure itself depend on the patient’s condition, and whether it is necessary to extract teeth that are in bad condition. Everything is performed under local anesthesia, so the procedure is painless.

2

Placement of subperiosteal implants

Subperiosteal implants, a custom-made mesh made of biocompatible titanium, will be placed in your toothless jaw. The procedure is very simple, quick and painless. After taking an impression, we create and place temporary fixed prosthetic restoration that allows you to have fully functional teeth in just 24 hours.

3

Osseointegration

This is followed by a period of recovery and integration of the implant with the jaw bone. During this period, you have functional teeth and a temporary fixed dental bridge. This phase lasts 4 months, with one check up one month after the procedure when we check the occlusion and oral hygiene.

4

Taking impressions

Four months after the procedure, after successful osseointegration, wound healing and complete stability of the implant, we take an impression for definitive work. We make the final prosthetic restoration in our state-of-the-art digital laboratory using CAD-CAM technology.

5

Placement of fixed prosthetic restoration

We create a trial prosthetic work that you try to get an impression of what the teeth will be like and to check whether any modifications are necessary. The final step is the creation and placement of a fixed prosthetic restoration, a dental bridge made of zirconia or acrylic, which is attached to the placed subperiosteal implants.

Advantages of subperiosteal implants

Bone grafting procedures prior to placement are not required, making the process significantly faster and less invasive.

This concept is an excellent solution for patients with jawbone deficiency who are not candidates for traditional dental implants or the All-on-4 method.

They are fixed to the jawbone, providing a stable and durable base for fixed prosthetic restoration, i.e. artificial teeth.

These implants are made individually and custom-made for each patient according to precise three-dimensional images, ensuring a perfect fit.

They can be used to replace all missing teeth in the jaw and for complete rehabilitation of the mouth.

Cleaning is the same as with natural teeth, which makes it easier for patients to maintain good oral hygiene.

Our patient Josip Baroga from the Umag area came to us with a denture in his upper jaw, which he struggled with for years. He wanted a fixed solution that would enable him to have fully functional teeth and a beautiful smile.

Our implantology team led by Dr. Slovša concluded that he was not a suitable candidate for standard implant placement, so the NO BONE IMPLANT concept was proposed to him.

To Josip’s great happiness and satisfaction, we placed subperiosteal implants in his upper jaw. Prosthetic restoration in zirconia was placed, for superior aesthetics and a completely natural appearance. Now he can eat, talk and laugh again without restrictions.

PATIENTS ABOUT US

Frequently asked questions and misconceptions about subperiosteal implants

With proper maintenance and high-quality oral hygiene, they can last for more than 15 years, or even for life. However, the lifespan can vary depending on several factors such as the patient’s oral health, the quality of the material, and the expertise of the oral surgeon performing the procedure.

Implant surgery can be a bit uncomfortable, but with the use of local anesthesia and conscious sedation, the procedure should not be painful. After the procedure, patients may experience discomfort and swelling, which can be alleviated with painkillers and ice packs.

The level of pain or discomfort experienced by the patient after the procedure can vary depending on factors such as the complexity of the implant placement and individual pain tolerance. However, most patients report that any discomfort is tolerable and resolves within a few days to a week.

Subperiosteal implants require the same care and maintenance as natural teeth. This includes regular brushing, flossing and visits to the dentist twice a year for check-ups and cleanings. It is important to maintain good oral hygiene in order to prevent the occurrence of any infection and to ensure the longevity of the implant.

No, they are not meant to be taken out of the mouth. Because the implant integrates with the jawbone over time, patients should not attempt to remove their dental restoration. If you have problems or complications with your implants, contact your dentist or oral surgeon for treatment.

To place subperiosteal implants, your dentist will make a small incision in the gums. Then he will make space for the metal structure under the gum tissue. After placing the metal frame on the jawbone, he will stitch the gums and give them time to heal. Temporary fixed teeth are immediately placed on the titanium structure, so you get a new functional smile right away.

Standard dental implants are the most common type of implant and are placed directly into the jawbone. These implants are usually made of titanium and have the shape of small screws. They are placed in the bone through a small incision in the gum tissue and left to heal. After the osseointegration, a dental restoration such as a crown, bridge or denture can be attached to the implant.

Subperiosteal implants, on the other hand, are placed on or above the jawbone but below the gums. Subperiosteal implants are custom made to match the shape of the patient’s jawbone and are placed under the gums through a small incision. After the implant has healed, the final dental restoration can be attached to the implant.
